Mason Hayes Rides with The Jonas Brothers for NBC's Olympic Dreams
In early May, Mongoose BMX racer Mason Hayes got to experience something most 12-year-olds could only dream about. Mason flew to California to guest coach on NBC's Olympic Dreams special with pop icons The Jonas Brothers and USA Olympian and World #1 BMX racer Alise (Post) Willoughby. The #OlympicDreams special airs tonight, Wednesday, July 21 at 8/7c on NBC. Read what Mason had to say about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Being able to go to California, meet the Jonas brothers, and ride my bike with the Jonas brothers and Alise (Willoughby)?!? That was beyond cool. What an amazing opportunity to be able to do all of those things at one time.
All three brothers were super cool and fun to be around. They were very nice to me, Alise, the producers, cameramen, and production staff. That is one thing that I didn’t realize before the shoot, just how many people it takes to do a show like this (NBC's Olympic Dreams). There were so many people involved, and every shot took a long time to set up. It could be the zip line camera or the shoulder camera shots, the lights, the background, everything seemed to matter, a lot. Those guys work really hard.
One of the best parts was when everyone was setting up or taking breaks, I was able to just ride the track with a real stuntman named Danny. He and I rode for hours just trying different lines. He was really fun to ride with.
I had a chance to talk to Kevin Jonas about their Mom and Dad’s restaurant, which is in Belmont, NC, and pretty close to my house. We went there when we got home and I even got to meet their Dad.
I want to thank Mongoose, USA BMX, the USA BMX Foundation, Alise, and everyone involved with allowing me to be part of such an amazing event. I hope everyone enjoys it!
